El Paso is in the middle of an ICE storm and hundreds of asylum-seeking families are literally being drop-shipped at the bus station with zero resources and mayor Margo is nowhere to be found other than a news media screen.
Annunciation House, Hope Border Institute and other organizations along with hundreds of volunteers have mobilized to help our Central American neighbors and as far as I’ve heard mayor Margo has made a few of politicized comments to CNN and the local media but has yet to put himself out in the public eye.
Margo needs to be FRONT & CENTER regarding this issue and he needs to do more than utter cheap political cliches to CNN like:
“lawmakers haven’t had the fortitude to take care of immigration.”
The United States needs to control its borders, Margo said, and he questioned if foreign aid to Latin America was doing enough to combat gangs and other problems that drive migrants’ “credible reasons for their needing asylum.”
“This is symptomatic of the problems that (Congress) failed to, as I say again, have the intestinal fortitude to take care of,” he said.

Margo needs to get some shoe leather on, go to some of these shelters where the asylum seeking families are being taken to and start reaching his hands out to help them. He needs to call out to El Pasoans to join in the outreach and make a difference.
So far it’s been typical Margo hiding behind a microphone making statements to the media.
So I have two 5-cent cliches for mayor Margo…
Words are cheap. Actions speak louder than words.
Get your mayoral butt out there and start rubbing elbows with El Pasoans actually making a difference in the lives of “the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free” that are at our doorstep.
Welcome them to El Paso.
