MountainStar Sports Lies © Jud Burgess

Don’t believe the MountainStar Sports full page El Paso Times ad

September 03, 2017

PLEASE SHARE far and wide!  One of the few ways we can effectively challenge their money and power.

Exposing the lies, half-truths and misinformation in MSSG’s El Paso Times ad.

LIE #1 — MSSG is parroting panicked city leaders who insist that “sports” were mentioned via various hard to find brochures and ads, BUT the truth is that 100,000 El Pasoans voted based on a ballot that made no mention of sports of any kind. This was an intentional move by the City to maximize the chances of passing the bond measure by eliminating anything that might threaten passage of the bond…like the word “sports”.

Judge Amy Meachum of Travis County in Texas ruled that the city engaged in a deceptive bait-and-switch campaign to affect the outcome of the bond vote, and clearly stated that the City can build a multi-purpose arena as stated in the ballot as long as IT IS NOT built equipped for large scale sporting events such as basketball, soccer, indoor football, hockey, etc.

The City and MSSG are actively engaged in a bald-faced attempt to undermine the decision rendered by Judge Amy Meachum. They also continue to squander our tax dollars in the effort to get their way by appealing the judge’s decision.

LIE #2 — MSSG is trying to paint the opposition as a tiny group of anti-progress activists.

This will be a major point of lies that they are basing their messaging on.

Yes, there are activist organizations with El Paso’s best interests in mind but there are also thousands of regular people who have signed a petition stating their opposition to this arena being built in Duranguito. There are people aged 10 to 93 that are actively opposing it.

There are courageous politicians on local, county and state levels publicly against it. I personally spoke to dozens of people about the arena and if given the choice to not build it at all in favor of better options, the majority were opposed to it even being built. Why? Because they know its potential to be a colossal failure and the repercussions of being stuck with the tax bill for decades.

LIE #3 — MSSG and the City can believe all they want to that El Pasoans knew exactly what were voting for in 2012. If they hadn’t intentionally removed all references to “sports”on the actual voting ballot then they could make that statement with truth and authority.

But the City did remove that specific language and Judge Meachum legally determined that El Pasoans were intentionally manipulated by the City by the bait-and-switch scam.

LIE #4 — The full page ad is NOT sponsored on behalf of El Paso voters but a calculated and selfish effort to benefit themselves and their pocketbooks.

You can be damn sure that there are some major financial benefits if they get their sports arena. Whatever money they are investing in this attempt to change public opinion is a pittance compared to what they stand to gain off the taxpayers backs if the arena is allowed to be built in Duranguito with sports included.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

These people have money, wealth and influence. Even Mayor Margo is part of their effort to culturally cleanse Duranguito for an sure-to-fail arena.

But I believe we have the numbers and if we focus on our city and our impact on it, change can happen.

EMAIL our MAYOR and ALL CITY REPS

MSSG is trying to get people to email Mayor Margo and reps to continue their effort to destroy Duranguito, build an unnecessary arena at tax-payer expense and to subvert Judge Meachums decision prohibiting sports as part of the Multi-purpose entertainment facility.

Take the time to write up a quick email explaining WHY you are opposed to the arena.

Make it very personal because it IS PERSONAL.

Send your email to the mayor and ALL REPS because they are all responsible for El Paso.

Here is a list of emails and phone #s of all of them. Share this with your friends and encourage them to email. Let’s beat MOUNTAINS STAR and the CITY at their own game!!
